In week 15 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Cruz Azul will host Chivas of Guadalajara at the Estadio Azul this Saturday, April 22, 2017 (3:00 PM Pacific).  There is a bit of a rivalry between the two teams, both being part of the ‘big four’ and neither will want to lose this game.

Cruz Azul is a struggling franchise that needs a miracle to make the playoffs at this point of the season. The Mexico City team is basically already out of the playoffs and just has pride to play for in this encounter. Attendances for ‘la maquina’ in this tournament have been pitiful, even bringing in fewer people to their home games than teams like Chiapas, Monarcas Morelia and Puebla.

A low attendance is expected at the Estadio Azul because the team has little to play for in this game and because someone thought it was a brilliant idea to excessively spike up the ticket prices. The ‘cementeros’ are coming off their worst loss of the season losing 2-1 to Puebla in the dying seconds of the game.  The game exemplified what the franchise has dealt with for years now and was just another ‘cruzazuleada’ to add to list. The ‘cementeros’ are coming off their worst loss of the season losing 2-1 to Puebla in the dying seconds of the game.  The game exemplified what the franchise has dealt with for years now and was just another ‘cruzazuleada’ to add to list. The three points from this game would not even serve as a morale victory at this point to this already battered institution.

Chivas of Guadalajara is living a phenomenal moment, currently in third place with 25 points and coming from winning the Copa MX final this past Wednesday against Monarcas Morelia. The ‘rojiblancos’ have not won in their last two games, drawing 0-0 to Pachuca and losing 3-0 to Tigres UANL. The success of Matias Almeyda’s squad has been a solid team effort with no standout goal-scorer.

Alan Pulido has been the top goalscorer with five goals but has not had the most influence on the team. Arguably the player that has managed to hold everything together and make Chivas a rigid team has been the midfielder, Orbelin Pineda.

Despite winning the Copa MX, Chivas did suffer a big loss in the game, Angel Zaldivar suffering an injury during the game. It was reported that both Zaldivar and Rodolfo Pizarro will miss at least four weeks. This could prove to be a huge blow to the ‘tapatios’ but they should still be able to get a win this Saturday at the Estadio Azul. The match should be an enticing one with both managers having a winning spirit, even if only one actually translates it onto the field. The encounter will be one to watch this weekend in the Liga MX, a real must-watch.
