In week 14 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Veracruz will host Necaxa at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente this Saturday, April 15, 2017 (5:00 PM Pacific). Both teams have been struggling this tournament and need to accumulate points from this game.

Veracruz is currently in 13th place with 15 points, coming off a huge 3-2 win over Puebla in their week 10-midweek clash this past Tuesday. The ‘tiburones’ are still in last place on the relegation table this season but are now only a point behind Chiapas and Morelia. The ‘escualos’ have proven to be a force at the Luis “Pirata” Fuente this tournament winning five out of six games at home.

Juan Antonio Luna will look to take advantage of the home field, especially against a winnable opponent like Necaxa. Veracruz should be able to get points from this game and will look to get the three points from the ‘rayos’.

Necaxa has had a disappointing Clausura 2017 after emerging as a dark horse in the Apertura 2016 tournament. The problem has been the defense not keeping up with Alfonso Sosa’s pragmatic style of play. The back line for the ‘rayos’ has been a disaster this tournament giving up 20 goals, the third most in the Liga MX. The offense led by Edson Puch has also not been much better only scoring 12 goals, which is tied for second-worst in the league.

This dreadful combination has earned Necaxa only 11 points, currently in penultimate place after 13 weeks. The team from Aguascalientes has not won since week 6 of the competition and should have a complicated game away from home at Veracruz.
