Sunderland ace Jermain Defoe has urged his team-mates to work hard for the rest of the season. Though the Black Cats can still technically avoid relegation, it is unlikely given that they are in poor form, sitting 10 points adrift of safety with just seven matches remaining.
Along with young goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, Defoe has been one of the bright sparks in the struggling Sunderland team this season, having bagged 14 goals, though he has not scored since early February.
The 34-year-old told the Daily Star, “Working hard for the team is the first thing anyone should do. Playing nice football and scoring goals is something that can look after itself, but you have to give everything.”
Should David Moyes team be relegated this season, Defoe will certainly find a new club. Many teams in the Premier League will be after him considering that he is very experienced and has proven that he still has the ability to score goals at the highest level.
