Sunderland boss Moyes blames referee for Manchester United defeat

Stadium of Light

Sunderland manager David Moyes has said that he believes that the refereeing of Craig Pawson played a role in his clubs 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

Seb Larsson was questionably red-carded just before half time following a tackle on Ander Herrera. Zlatan Ibrahimovic put the red-devils ahead in the 30th minute before Henrikh Mkhitaryan doubled the lead just after half time. Marcus Rashford completed the win for Jose Mourinho’s team during stoppage time.

While speaking during the post-match interview, Moyes expressed that he felt that Pawson’s refereeing decisions on the day were detrimental to his team.

He said, “We have to fix our own faults first but I certainly didn’t think the decisions helped us today. I don’t want to really focus on the referee but I think the decisions today had an impact on the game.”

With just seven games remaining, the Black Cats are 10 points adrift of safety. They are expected by many to be relegated this season.
