In week 13 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Santos Laguna will host Pachuca at the Estadio Corona TSM this Saturday, April 9, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific). Both teams are fighting for a playoff spot this Clausura and should present an enticing duel.
Santos Laguna is coming off a huge 1-0 win over Queretaro in week 12 of the competition and is now in eighth place in the Liga MX with 16 points. The ‘guerreros’ have struggled to maintain leads this tournament with five blown leads that ended in draws. Santos Laguna’s offense has been average with 15 goals, but the defense has been key only allowing 12 goals. The strong backline is led by the centre-back pairing of Nestor Araujo and Carlos Izquierdoz who also have scored two goals each this year.
Jorge Villafana has also recently received an opportunity to start for Santos with the young Gerardo Arteaga out due to injury. Djaniny Tavares has been the most impressive player for the celestial warriors as of late with four goals in the tournament, including the winning goal in Santos’ last game against Queretaro. Santos Laguna is a well-balanced team under great management with Jose Manuel de la Torre and should be able to provide a solid showing in this match.

Most recently the ‘tuzos’ had a huge win in the CONCACAF Champions League defeating FC Dallas 3-1, which granted them a spot in the final of the competition. Hirving Lozano did score two goals in that match which was a good sign for Pachuca, the match being his second since returning from injury.
Lozano has not been very productive in the Liga MX scoring just three goals which all came in the opening game of the tournament against Leon. The 21-year-old talent needs to produce more for Diego Alonso to keep on getting the favorable results. The match should be one of the best this weekend with both teams needing the three points to keep their playoff aspirations alive.
