Lee Cattermole has insisted that the Sunderland players must show that they care about the fans of the club as they take on Manchester United during the weekend.

The Black Cats are now eight points adrift of safety after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday. This effectively makes the possibility of them avoiding the drop this season very slim.

Cattermole after the game admitted that his club are in a difficult position, however he maintained that they must show pride for the sake of the fans of the club.

He said, “If you look at it, it looks tough – very tough, But you don’t become a footballer by shying away from things, everyone has got to have that drive – or you hope they have.”

During the defeat on Tuesday, Cattermole made his comeback for the Black Cats after nearly six months on the sidelines after undergoing hip cartilage surgery.
