Sunderland manager David Moyes has admitted that his club may need “miracles” if they wish to avoid relegation this season.

The Black Cats suffered yet another defeat as they lost 1-0 against Watford on Saturday and remain last on the Premiership standings, seven points adrift of safety. Miguel Britos scored to consign the Wearside club to their 19th League defeat of the season.

“I don’t know about miracles, but we know they happen and it’s happened a couple of times recently to Sunderland,” said Moyes after the game.

“They’ve been here before – I’ve not been here before, it’s new to me – but hopefully people at the club know exactly what its like. I’ve been told we were seven points behind with six games left before, and if you can do it from that position you can do it from any.”

Moyes’ men face tough upcoming trips against Leicester City and Manchester United. As for the Hornets, this was their first League win in five matches and will provide much needed relief to manager Walter Mazzarri.
