Garry Monk speaks of his pride for Leeds United star

Leeds United manager Gary Monk has revealed that the club are “proud” that star striker Chris Wood has been nominated for the Championship player of the season award.

The New Zealand international is the top scorer in the Championship this season and his 24 goals thus far have been a major reason as to why Leeds are pushing for a place in the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

The achievements of the 25-year-old recently caused veteran Reading forward Yann Kermogrant to label the “Whites” a one man team, as they would have not had the success they have had this season without the services of the former West Brom striker.

Wood faces competition from Newcastle ace Dwight Gayle as well as Anthony Knockaert for the coveted award.

When asked about the nomination of Wood, Monk said, “He has been fantastic. Chris is an important part of what we are doing here but I am sure he will be the first to tell you that he has given big thanks to his team-mates for putting him in a position where he can be nominated like that.”
