Sky Sports Pundit Paul Walsh gave Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier a 7/10 rating for his performance during the England national team’s victory over Lithuania.
England completed a comfortable win over their opponents on Sunday through goals from veteran Jermain Defoe as well as Jamie Vardy, with Dier playing the full 90 minutes of the match.
“He’s (Dier) never going to be doing anything too extravagant against a side like Lithuania,” Walsh told Sky Sports.
“In terms of using the ball after picking it up from the back four and protecting that back four, he did the job. He didn’t have too much to do and that’s not his fault, but what he did he did well.”
Dier has played a key role for Tottenham’s impressive defensive united this season alongside Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. His leadership abilities also make him a possible candidate to take over the England captaincy, with current skipper Wayne Rooney’s international future still unclear.
