Former striker expresses deep regret at leaving Newcastle United

Former England striker Les Ferdinand has admitted that the biggest regret of his career was leaving Newcastle United too soon.  The 50-year-old also added that regret over the decision he made to leave is the reason he regularly visits his former club.

Speaking to the Shields Gazette, he said, “Of all of the clubs that I have been at and I’ve been to a few in the end, it’s the only one that I come back to.

“Obviously I work at QPR now so I have to attend the fans forums and stuff like that but this is the only club that I come back to, simply because of the reception and it always makes me realise that I left here too early.”

Ferdinand spent only two years with the Magpies but is regarded as a hero by many of the club’s fans, especially as he was part of the squad which challenged for the Premier League title 21 years ago.

The former striker boasted a phenomenal record for Newcastle, having bagged 50 goals in 83 appearances for the club.
