West Ham receive very bad news regarding striker’s fitness

West Ham forward Diafra Sakho is unlikely to play again this season as a result of the back injury he suffered in November, the Belfast Telegraph have reported.

Though the Senegal international has been taking part in training sessions, the club’s medical staff have confirmed that it will take a long period of time before he reaches full fitness.

For Sakho, this has been a season full of bad luck. He had to miss the first three months of the season through injury and upon returning, managed to play just two matches before suffering the blow which has kept him out of action until now.

Stijn Vandenbroucke, who is head of Medical and Sport Science at West Ham, said, “We must be mindful that Diaf is essentially at the start of his own personal pre-season training schedule.”

Vandenbroucke further added that a long rehab process will need to take place before the 27-year-old is eligible for selection again.
