Everton are reportedly interest in signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Brennan Johnson as the club aims to increase their recruitment of talented youngsters. The Merseyside club have already had a number of bids rejected by Forest for the 15 year old.
The Toffees will have to fork out around £1 million, with director of football Steve Walsh expected to negotiate with Forest. Johnson is highly rated and has gained regular game time for the Forest under 18 side this season.
Since Walsh joined the Everton hierarchy last year, the club’s recruitment of young players has increased. Ademola Lookman, who joined the team for £11 million in January, and Tom Davies, who was part of the clubs youth development system, have managed to break into the first team.
This strategy of buying players and developing them is definitely one that will benefit the Toffees going forward.
Wash said, “The most important thing is the recruitment of players for the first team, but I’m also conscious of the fact we have a good academy and good young players coming through.”
