Leeds United ace Chris Wood will captain the New Zealand national team for their upcoming matches. Wood has been in sensational form for the Whites this season and helped the club launch a challenge for promotion.
Winston Reid of West Ham, who usually serves as captain, suffered an injury during his team’s defeat to Leicester City in the Premier League last weekend and as a result, has been ruled out of the two matches which the All Whites will play against Fiji, leaving Wood to deputize as captain.
Captaincy is not new to Wood as he previously served as skipper whilst Reid was unavailable for a game against New Caledonia last November.
The form of Wood is vital if Leeds United win promotion to the Premier League next season and the New Zealand national team will hope for the 25-year-old to emulate his form for the Championship side at international level if they wish to progress to the World Cup.
