Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had already confirmed early in the week that midfielder and captain Jordan Henderson and striker Daniel Sturridge would be out for this weekend’s trip to Manchester City.
But now, the gaffer has confirmed further issues at the striker position ahead of a crucial clash against the Citizens. The German has revealed in a press conference today that preferred striker Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi would be likely be missing out this weekend’s trip.
According to This is Anfield, Klopp said that Firmino hadn’t trained all week and “should train today or tomorrow,” before adding that “the icing on the cake was Origi not training yesterday because he didn’t feel too good.”
Firmino is coming off a slight injury suffered against Arsenal, while it appears that the Belgian Origi is sick. This is bad news for Liverpool if they aren’t able to field either man, and that looks pretty likely at this juncture.
It looks like Sadio Mane might be drafted in up front, which could mean a place for Wales’ newest call-up Ben Woodburn to come into the side. We’ll see how all shapes up in the next couple of days!
