In week 11 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Cruz Azul will host Tigres UANL at the Estadio Azul this Saturday, March 18, 2017 (4:00 PM Pacific). The match is set to be one of the best of the weekend because of the attractive style of play both teams utilize and because of the necessity of the three points from the game for both teams.

Cruz Azul is currently in 14th place with nine points, only three points out of a playoff spot. The team is resurging after a very slow start, having beat Chiapas 2-0 in week 9 and Santos Laguna 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Copa MX. Martin Cauteruccio came up huge in the victory against Santos, having scored a hat-trick, which may be the confidence boost the Uruguayan striker needs to excel in the Liga MX. Paco Jemez does employ a possession-based style of play, as does Ricardo Ferretti, so it will be interesting to see what formation Jemez does use and what play style to try and defeat his opponent in this match.

Tigres UANL has been another underachieving side in the Liga MX this Clausura in 12th place with 11 points, a point away from a playoff spot. The felines have been playing true to their origins using a possession based play style, but the lack of finishing is what has affected the team. Recently the inclusion of Eduardo Vargas has improved Tigres massively, scoring two out of the last four goals in all competitions for his team. This would include scoring against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the midweek CONCACAF Champions League semifinals match.

Ricardo Ferretti will be in the stands for the game but it should be interesting to see what tactics he does employ to try and either counteract Cruz Azul’s style of play or go toe to toe with Paco Jemez. The match should be one of the best of the Clausura with two of the most interesting managers in the league leading the charge.
