In group D group stage play of the Copa Libertadores, San Lorenzo will host Atletico Paranaense at the Estadio Pedro Bidegain this Wednesday, March 15, 2017 (3:00 PM Pacific). San Lorenzo is the favorite to win the match, but both teams should give a good match looking to sum up points in group D of the Copa Libertadores.
San Lorenzo has one of the strongest teams in the Argentine Primera Division currently in second place with 31 points, only three points back of Boca Juniors in first place. The blue and reds have many experienced players on their team like Marcos Angeleri, Fernando Belluschi and Fabricio Coloccini who have all played in Europe in the past. The top goalscorer for the Argentine side is Nicolas Blandi who has six goals so far in the Argentine Primera Division. But the most interesting player on San Lorenzo’s roster is by far, Ruben Botta who not too long ago arrived from Liga MX side, Pachuca.
Botta was a great playmaker for the Mexican team and could prove to be important for San Lorenzo in this competition. San Lorenzo is one of the teams who have already played a match in the Copa Libertadores, losing 4-0 against Brazilian side, Flamengo away from home. The Argentine side will look to bounce back in this match against another Brazilian side in Atletico Paranaense.
Paranaense finished in sixth place in the last Brazilian Serie A and made it past the qualifying stage in the Copa Libertadores to make it to the group stage. The Brazilian side has already played a game as well in this group D, drawing 2-2 to Chilean side, Universidad Catolica at home. The two goalscorers in the match for the Brazilian side being 24-year-old Nikao and veteran Argentine midfielder, Lucho Gonzalez.
Gonzalez being the only foreigner on the club and being one of the main players on the team. San Lorenzo will have the advantage of having a stronger roster and of the home support as well, but these Copa Libertadores games are always highly contested encounters.
