Leeds United manager Garry Monk explains Chris Wood’s surprise omission

Leeds United manager Garry Monk has revealed why in form striker Chris Wood did not feature during the Peacocks’ 1-1 draw with Fulham on Tuesday night.

Monk explained that he opted to use Souleymane Doukara in order to avoid injury to Wood after the New Zealand international complained of a calf complaint.

Monk confirmed on LUTV, “Chris Wood had a tightness in his calf after the Birmingham game and there is no need for us to risk him.”

Wood has arguably been in the best form of his career this season and has netted 44% of his team’s 50 goals as they look to gain promotion to their Premier League.

It was definitely the right decision from Monk to opt not to risk injury to his key talisman. His presence will be key for the final matches and in determining whether or not Leeds do make it to the Premier League. Garry Monk’s men next face QPR at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
