In what is thought to be a mismatch in week 9 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Puebla will host Tigres UANL at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc this Sunday, March 5, 2017. (10:00 AM Pacific). Tigres need points to make playoffs, while Puebla is still trying to avoid relegation.
Puebla has been a resurging side in the Liga MX ever since Jose Cardozo came in as the head coach of the team. Before his arrival, Puebla possessed one of the wort defenses in the league having allowed 11 goals in four games. Since Cardozo’s takeover the ‘camoteros’ are undefeated and have only allowed two goals.
Currently Puebla is only three points away from the playoffs in 12th place with nine points, but is still trying to evade relegation, 11 points ahead of Morelia in the Relegation table. Puebla is coming off a very shocking result having beaten Toluca 3-1 at the Estadio Nemesio Diez. The ‘camoteros’ will look to have the motivation from that match translate into this game.
Tigres UANL is coming off a disappointing result having tied 1-1 to relegation side, Monarcas Morelia. The felines have not had an ideal start to the tournament in 15th place with only eight points, however are still only four points out of a playoff spot. Many key players have not performed as well as Ricardo Ferretti is accustomed to this Clausura.
Andre-Pierre Gignac had been off to a slow start, but has scored consecutively in the last two league games. The French striker and the Tigres squad will need to be in top form to get a favorable result against this resurging Puebla side. The match should be a great game between two very interesting teams in this Clausura.
