Monk Talks About Latest Leeds United Transfer Rumour

Leeds vs Port Vale

Leeds Utd boss Garry Monk has dismissed rumours suggesting that defender Pontus Jansson could join Premier League side Southampton in the summer.

As we reported yesterday, recent rumours have suggested that the Saints have identified Jansson as a possible summer recruitment. The Saints, who had previously inquired about the player when he was still playing for Malmo, wants to sign him as a possible replacement for Jose Fonte, who joined West Ham in January.

However, Monk is not paying any attention to such rumours and has insisted that the Swede defender will stay at Elland Road beyond the summer.

“Pontus is a Leeds United player, he is very committed to us and in terms of the deal,” Monk was quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Let’s comment on facts, which is Pontus is a Leeds United player, he’s here, he’s ready to fight, he’s ready to be a Leeds United player for the future so that’s all that matters.

“I don’t need to comment on rumours and speculation – there’s no point.”

Jansson, who initially joined Leeds on a season-long loan move in the summer, has been one of the key players for Monk this season.

In the first week of February, Leeds announced that they had signed the 26-year-old on a permanent deal which will keep him at the club until 2020.
