In week 6 of the Copa Corona MX Monterrey will host FC Juarez at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer this Tuesday, February, 28, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific). This is the last week of the group stages in the Copa MX, with Monterrey, already qualified, and Juarez still looking to qualify to the next round.
Monterrey has arguably been the best team in the Copa MX, going undefeated in three games and scoring 11 goals, while having conceded no goals in that span. Antonio Mohamed has made it very clear that the Copa MX is an important asset. ‘El Turco’ has used several of his frequent starters of the Liga MX in the Copa MX like Edwin Cardona, Rogelio Funes Mori and Dorlan Pabon. Rogelio Funes Mori being the top goalscorer of the competition with three goals.
Monterrey are already guaranteed a spot to the knockout stages, so the Argentine manager may reconsider using some of his best players in this game. Monterrey is coming from a tough 2-0 loss to Club Tijuana in week 8 of the Liga MX, so Mohamed might still use some starters to get their confidence up. It is still unclear what Antonio Mohamed will do for this match, either way the ‘rayados’ do possess some quality players, that can compete against Juarez.
FC Juarez is in the race for the seven second place spots to qualify for the next round of the competition. The border-city side has six points right up there with the other runners-up of the groups, goal differential may just turn out to be the deciding factor for Juarez. The Bravos have had a nice Copa MX campaign, beating Sinaloa twice by a score of 2-1 in both games. The lone loss for Miguel Fuentes’ side came in week 2 of the tournament, falling to Monterrey by a score of 1-0.
Juarez is also doing alright in the Ascenso MX competition in 13th place with 14 points, just six points back from first place. Miguel Fuentes does have some former Liga MX players at his disposal like Raul Enriquez, Edgar Mejia and Cirilo Saucedo, who can lead the team to a favorable result in this game. The game should be a good encounter with Juarez motivated to get at least a point from the game.
