Chiapas has performed well seven games into the season as the team coached by Sergio Bueno has earned 9 points after 3 wins and 4 losses. The team from the ‘selva’ is a win away from the top-8 which shows they are in a good battle to be considered as possible playoff contenders. Yet, most importantly, they are in 16th place in the relegation table, only 4 points ahead of last placed Monarcas Morelia. For that reason, a win at home against Chivas will not only place them in a playoff seed battle, but also maintain distance away from a possible demotion.

The team coached by Matias Almeyda defeated their top rival Club America last weekend which allowed them to improve 14 points and be in 2nd place at the start of the week. In all, in the Liga MX Chivas is undefeated in three matches, their last loss against Xolos of Tijuana who is one of the top teams this season. With a win this Sunday, Chivas may have a chance to take the top position in the league (if Toluca loses), or at least remain in 2nd place.
