According to ESPN FC, Arsenal have been closely watching Porto striker Andre Silva.

The Gunners most recently sent scouts to watch the Portugal international in Porto’s midweek loss to Juventus in the Champions League. The 21-year old has a €60 million release clause in his contract and is one of Europe’s most highly rated talents.

Silva has established himself as a regular for Portugal and Porto. He’s scored 18 goals in total this season, with four of those coming in the Champions League. It’s believed Porto are resigned to losing their prized youngster, but the high fee Silva will command should alleviate some financial problems facing the Portuguese club.

Arsenal are looking to bolster their striker options next season, and at the very least are creating contingency plans in case Alexis Sanchez leaves the club this summer. The Chilean striker has less than 18 months left on his contract and Arsenal might be forced to sell if they can’t convince Alexis to put pen to paper.

With Arsene Wenger’s future in the balance, there is a lot unknown to how Arsenal will approach this coming summer. It’s likely a number of players would be less willing to commit to the club besides Alexis and Mesut Özil, who also has less than 18 months left on his contract.

One man brought all of Arsenal’s players to the club and they’ve expressed loyalty to that one man. While it’s to soon to speculate on who will and won’t be in the squad next season, the uncertainty regarding the futures of Wenger, Özil, and Alexis could mean a volatile summer for the Gunners.
