The Super Clasico Nacional between Chivas of Guadalajara and Club America will be held this Saturday, February 18, 2017 (7:06 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Chivas. As always, this is the single-most noteworthy game in all of the season and during this Liga MX Clausura 2017 the stakes are high for both sides.
Chivas of Guadalajara enters this game as the favorite to win considering the good season they have so far when compared to that of their arch-rivals Club America. The team coached by Matias Almeyda sits in 4th place after earning 11 points product of 3 wins, 2 ties, and 1 loss.
Last weekend Chivas played in another ‘clasico’ when they defeated city rivals Atlas 2-1 at the Estadio Jalisco. That win has Chivas on a three game undefeated streak within the Liga MX and this Saturday a win against the ‘aguilas’ could make them strong playoff and even title contenders.
Club America has had a disastrous season in which they sit in 13th place with only 7 points. The team coached by Ricardo La Volpe has had bad luck after six games, but most importantly, it seems as the team’s attack has suffered from the transfer of old team favorite and captain Rubens Sambueza. Without him, the team from ‘coapa’ has only scored 6 goals and is in dire need for a dynamic change in its offense. America is obliged to earn the three points this Saturday not only for the meaning to face a top rival, but also because anything else will jeopardize their playoff contention almost half-way through the season.
