In a rematch of week 3 of the Copa Corona MX, Chivas of Guadalajara will host Venados of Merida this week 4 at the Estadio Chivas this Wednesday, February 15, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific). Chivas is undefeated in the competition, while Merida is yet to sum up points, the Copa MX is competitive, so both teams could use the three points.
Chivas won the encounter between the two teams by a score of 1-0 in week 3 of the tournament. Matias Almeyda’s team is heading into a huge game over the weekend against Club America, so it is unlikely that any regular starters will feature in this game. Chivas do still have plenty of talent on its roster like Carlos Salcido, Carlos Fierro, Isaac Brizuela and Nestor Calderon who may feature in this match.
The ’rebano sagrado’ are coming from a huge 2-1 win over Atlas in Liga MX play, where Isaac Brizuela did feature and played very well. The ‘rojiblancos’ do have four points in this tournament, but the way the structure works in the Copa MX, that may not be enough to qualify to the knockout stages of the cup. Chivas should have no problem beating this second division side, but you never know in this competition.
Merida is one of the worst teams in the Copa MX and in the Ascenso MX competition. The team has been struggling heavily and is now in a transitional stage with Bruno Marioni as the Manager. The Argentine skipper has already made a positive impact on Merida as the team is coming from a big 0-0 draw to first place Zacatecas in the Ascenso MX.
The tie can prove to be a huge confidence boost for the team heading into this match at the Estadio Chivas. The ‘venados’ do not carry many notable names on their roster, but do have former Liga MX players like Pablo Aja and Gabino Velasco. The match should be a solid encounter at the Estadio Chivas this Wednesday.
