Sunderland star Jermain Defoe has praised the new signings made by David Moyes during the January transfer window. The veteran striker feels that the new arrivals will be of great assistance to Sunderland in their quest to avoid Premier League relegation.

The form and confidence of the Black Cats as increased over the past week. They claimed an impressive draw against high-flying Tottenham and thrashed fellow relegation candidates Crystal Palace 4-0 to help inspire a sense of hope within the team and amongst fans that they can avoid the drop.

Despite concerns having been raised over his age and fitness, veteran Joleon Lescott made an impressive debut off the bench and Defoe was especially proud of his compatriot hailing him as a true professional of the game.

Defoe said as per Clubcall, “Maybe the signings that have come in, players that the manager knows from before, lift everyone else. It’s something that we wanted – the team spirit is always the most important thing.”
