Liverpool’s Champions League winner retires

One of Liverpool’s most interesting characters has called time on his playing career. Djibril Cisse, now 35 years old, has officially retired from Auxerre and football in general.

Cisse, a former French international, was a heck of a striker in his day. He was always full of pace and energy- when healthy- and could go for goal against the very best of teams. He was an important member of the team that won the Champions League in 2004/2005.

Cisse will go down as being an often-injured player, and it’s really quite a shame as well. He was always difficult to mark when he was on his game and healthy, so it was a real shame he never quite worked out at Anfield or elsewhere.

It is players like these that make you reminiscence about the old days sometimes, and it just goes to show that there is a good deal of luck that goes into any footballer’s career. Here’s wishing him the best as he moves on with his life!
