Dietmar Hamann, a member of Liverpool’s improbable Champions League winning side in 2004/2005, has called into question the length of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp’s contract.
Klopp was slated to be at the club for three years after his initial deal was agreed upon in October of last year. But club officials decided to put their faith in him by extending the deal to run for six more seasons, which Hamann has objected to.
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day show, the German said he “found it strange in the summer I’ve got the say… he changed the perception… but if you look at pure facts the points average hasn’t improved dramatically since Brendan Rodgers.”
He continued on, but it was basically a bunch of passive-aggressive type of talk. Hamann is trying to be encouraging toward his fellow German and Red, but it’s also difficult because there are these inconsistencies there.
He noted they lost in two cup finals, and that it hurt that they hadn’t made Champions League. This is the type of talk that will only heap pressure on Klopp.
It’s crazy to not give people time in modern football. Without it, United would never have become the club it is today because Sir Alex Ferguson would be somewhere in Scotland selling fish and chips. This is the best thing right now for Liverpool, and patience will just have to pay off.
