Sunderland’s bogey man finally earns a victory on 37th attempt

Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell ended his unsavory record of having not won a match in the last 39 he started as Sunderland thrashed fellow Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The last time the player started a match which ended in victory was in 2013 when playing for Manchester City against West Brom. The 39 games comprises of two games for former club Manchester City and 37 for current club Sunderland.

The Black Cats claimed victory through goals from Lamine Kone, Didier N’dong and a brace from the inspirational veteran Jermain Defoe.

Though Sunderland are still in the relegation zone, this win will certainly add confidence to the team and inspire hope that they can once again survive relegation.

The victory sees the team go equal on points with Palace. Rodwell though had to limp off in the 52th minute following an injury and had to be replaced by Darron Gibson.
