In what should be a very hard-fought match this weekend Necaxa will host Monterrey at the Estadio Victoria this Saturday, February 4, 2017. (7:00 PM Pacific). Both teams are still searching for identities in this Clausura 2017, with the three points from this match being crucial for either side.

Necaxa has struggled without their star man, Edson Puch this season, only accumulating three points in four games and a horrendous goal differential of -3. The good news for the ‘rayos’ is that their Chilean star, Puch, is back and he already scored in his first game back from injury scoring a penalty against second division side, Potros UAEM during the week in the Copa MX. The side from Aguascalientes has been a force at home since coming back from the Liga De Ascenso in the Apertura 2016 and will count with the home-field advantage for this tough match.

Alfonso Sosa’s side are coming from a rough 3-1 loss to Pumas UNAM away from home, but in their last home match they did manage to best Pachuca 1-0. Edson Puch and Maxi Barreiro will be the key players to look out for in this match as they have proven to be the most skillful members of this Necaxa side. Diego Riolfo could also prove to be an interesting option for ‘pocho’ Sosa in this game as the Uruguayan forward is coming from a hat-trick, mid-week against Potros UAEM in the Copa MX.

Monterrey is coming from a very strong 5-0 win against Dorados de Sinaloa in the Copa MX. Antonio Mohamed utilized several key players like Cesar Montes, Dorlan Pabon and Rogelio Funes Mori. Edwin Cardona was also used in the game, as he will not get the opportunity to play in this game against Necaxa due to a red card in last week’s game against Leon. Antonio Mohamed of course possess one of the most talented core of players in the Liga MX and should potentially be doing better than they have in recent weeks.

Monterrey has also struggled in disciplinary issues on the field accumulating six yellow cards and two red cards in four jornadas of Liga MX play. The team overseen by ‘el turco’ does have potential to be a contender this season and this will be a great test for the team away from home at the Estadio Victoria.
