Cruz Azul will host Queretaro at the Estadio Azul this Saturday, January 4, 2017 (3:00 PM Pacific) to kick off Saturday’s action in week 4 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017. Paco Jemez’s style of play going up against Queretaro’s new manager, Jaime Lozano should make for a great game. The two teams did also face each other in the Copa MX in a game that resulted in a 3-2 victory for the ‘gallos blancos’.
The pressure of overseeing an organization that has been accustomed to losing in recent times is finally getting to Paco Jemez. ‘La maquina’ have been playing well under the Spanish manager, but have not been able to find results, only accumulating four points in four jornadas. His recent loss to the Xolos, really made Jemez feel the pressure as the Spaniard, exploded when asked if he felt that his players were giving enough effort.
The key players to watch out for on this Mexico City team for this match are Angel Mena and Christian Gimenez. ‘El Chaco’ was by far the best player against the Xolos of Tijuana in its week 3 matchup at the Estadio Caliente. Ecuadorian winger, Angel Mena has been by far the best player for Cruz Azul in this Clausura 2017. The former Emelec player has been by far the most dynamic player for ‘la maquina’, finding spaces and creating opportunities for his teammates.
The ‘gallos blancos’ have been the most unattractive team in this Clausura 2017 tournament, as they are yet to get on the score sheet after four jornadas. Manuel Vucetich’s style of play made this team, unbearable to watch, with Tiago Volpi being the only ray of sunlight in the dark abyss the team finds themselves in. Queretaro is now in a transition stage, however with Vucetich gone, and young Jaime Lozano as the new head coach.
Jaime Lozano was successful in his first match as the new skipper for Queretaro as he came out victorious 1-0 against Alebrijes de Oaxaca away from home in the Copa Corona MX. The 37-year-old will now face his first true test facing one of the “big four” away from home. The match is an enticing encounter, and it should be interesting to see how Lozano will fair against Paco Jemez’s aggressive style of play.
