West Ham have removed the mural of former player Dimitri Payet from the London Stadium, as reported by the Daily Mail. Payet recently joined Marseille in his native France for £25 million in what was an unceremonious departure.
Despite being one of the most imporatnt players in the West Ham lineup, Payet refused to train with the team or play games for the Hammers, demanding a transfer. He also insisted that he did not need to apologize for his unruly behavior.
Following his departure, the club have now removed the tribute to their former star and replaced it with a graphic of Andy Caroll’s wonderful goal against Crystal Palace and surrounding it with accolades from fans.
The sensational strike from Caroll featuring a bicycle kick from Michail Antonio’s cross gave the Hammers a 2-0 lead over Palace before Manuel Lanzini completed a 3-0 win.
This was something that definitely needed to be done by the Hammers. He certainly showed the club and its fans disrespect and honors of him existing within the stadium should be fittingly removed.
