One of the best match-ups in week 4 of the Copa Corona MX will be Coras of Tepic hosting Club America at the Arena Cora this Wednesday, February 1, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific). The team from Nayarit is currently in second place in the Ascenso MX, while Club America will utilize many key players, which should make for a great match-up.
Ricardo La Volpe made it clear that he would utilize several key players in Copa MX play in his week 1 match-up against Santos Laguna where the Mexico City team was victorious 3-2 at the Estadio Azteca. It is unclear whether the ‘bigoton’ will decide to do the same against an Ascenso MX side, but we still could potentially see players like Javier Guemez, Edson Alvarez and Silvio Romero get the go-ahead for this match.
The ‘aguilas’ are not looking the best to start off their Liga MX campaign, having only three points in three games, but the Copa MX is of course a distinct competition which they have looked solid in. The player to watch for La Volpe will be Silvio Romero, who is a prolific striker that should be starting in Liga MX matches. Perhaps the Argentine striker can earn himself a spot in the starting 11 for Liga MX matches if he can perform well in these Copa MX games.
Coras is coming from a huge upset against Santos Laguna in the Copa MX at the Estadio Corona where they defeated the Liga MX side 2-1 with a late minute goal from former U 17 star, Julio ‘la momia’ Gomez. The team from Nayarit is led by a very young head coach in 29-year-old Marcelo Michel Leano, who has found success with Coras leading them to 12 points in 5 weeks of Ascenso MX play.
Michel may consider using some of his starters in this game like Alberto ‘el venado’ Medina since they will be playing at home and since the game is against America. Either way the match should be one to watch. Maybe the most interesting thing will be the atmosphere at the Arena Cora, with fans ready to cheer on America or boo and shout profanities directed towards the Mexico City team.
