Chelsea reportedly planning surprise swoop for £8million-rated Newcastle star

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow as a replacement for Asmir Begovic, should they miss out of Craig Gordan – according to reports from the Sun.

Gordan is currently involved in talks with his club Celtic, who were not interested in the £3 million offer Chelsea made for him. Celtic apparently made it clear that the 34-year-old is not for sale, which could force Chelsea to look at other options, as it looks like AsmirBegovic will join Bournemouth for £10 million.

Chelsea now have Darlow, rated at £8 million, on their sights. Darlow is certainly a capable goalkeeper and has experience as well having made over 100 Championship appearances with Nottingham Forest.

It remains to be seen though whether the player would want to swap regular first team football for a place on the bench, especially as he will likely get the chance to play first team football in the Premier League next season as Newcastle are likely to be promoted.
