In one of the best games during Week 3 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Club Leon will host Pumas UNAM this Saturday, January 21, 2017 (5:06 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Leon. Both sides are in need of a win in a season with many ‘liguilla’ caliber teams, but only eight seeds.
Leon has gathered 3 points after its first two games of the young season. The team coached by Javier Torrente already faced two strong opponents after losing to Pachuca in Week 1 by a last score of 2-4; last week they defeated Necaxa 1-0. The ‘panzas verdes’ have a very complicated schedule to begin their season considering their Saturday opponents will be Pumas, followed by Monterrey and Xolos of Tijuana in the following weeks.
Like Leon, Pumas has also faced tough opponents in their first two matches of the season. The team coached by Francisco Palencia has 3 points after a loss against Chivas in the first week, and a win over Mexico City rival Cruz Azul last weekend. Pumas will attempt to gather at least a point in the always difficult visit to the Estadio Leon, and a key man for that will be Javier Cortes who has scored in the past two games against Leon.
