Club América are fresh off their first win in 2017, having beaten Santos Laguna 3-2 in a Copa MX match this past Wednesday.  Las Aguilas fell last week in their opener vs Toluca, victimized by two fantastic goals from the Red Devils.  Based on the Copa MX lineup, it seems unlikely Ricardo La Volpe will make any drastic changes to the starting eleven when they face their past Apertura 2016 championship rivals, Tigres, this Saturday, January 21, 2017 (5:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Universitario.

Goalkeeper: Agustín Marchesin

Oh boy, what a tough first week for Marchesin.  There was pretty much nothing he could do to save either of Toluca’s goals, and he failed to even touch a savable free kick from Santos.

Left Back: Miguel Samudio

Samudio was the only Jornada 1 defender that was rested during the Copa MX match this week.  La Volpe clearly wants him 100% for the more important league matches.

Center Backs: Paolo Goltz and Pablo Aguilar

Both of these two played against Santos, but they have always been reliable to play multiple games in a week in the past, especially Aguilar, who led the team in minutes last year (barring goalkeepers).

Right Back: Bruno Valdéz

Valdez has settled in as América’s go-to right back for the time being, though Edson Alvarez may move to the right in the future.

Central Midfielders: William da Silva and José Guerrero

These two failed to control the midfield against Toluca, and will be looking to turn things around this weekend.

Left Wing: Michael Arroyo

Arroyo scored América’s lone goal against Toluca via a 22nd minute penalty.  Miky has become one of the biggest scoring threats on this team.

Right Wing: Renato Ibarra

Ibarra only played one half during Week 1, but he’ll be back out there at kick-off on Saturday.

Strikers: Darwin Quintero and Oribe Peralta

Oribe will almost certainly captain Las Aguilas once again during Jornada 2. Quintero is fresh off a fantastic goal against Santos Laguna.
