According to a report in TalkSport, Claude Puel is set to strengthen his side from the front by bringing in AS Monaco striker Valere Germain in this window. The 26-year-old spent time on loan under Puel last season, and Puel is keen to reunite with the Frenchman imminently.
Puel has had some issues up front for a while now as he has been without his favored striker Charlie Austin. Austin led the Saints while he was healthy, but they have had difficulty scoring since his layoff began. In recent weeks, Puel has utilized Jay Rodriguez as the lone front man, which has probably not set well with Shane Long.
It’s apparent that Puel doesn’t think very highly of the lightning quick but inaccurate Long, so it appears he’s turned his attentions elsewhere in order to sign a true striker.
Germain has only 18 months remaining on his contract and has yet to be offered a deal to extend that, so this deal is looking more and more likely to happen. Hold this space because we may be hearing something soon.
