Sofiane Boufal won’t be playing a part in the Africa Cup of Nations after all, according to the reports from the Daily Echo. Boufal, a tricky 23 year old attacking midfielder has impressed at times for the Saints this season as he looks to fully adjust to the Premier League.
Boufal has apparently picked up an injury ahead of the tournament in Gabon, and he’ll have put a dent in his side’s chances as well. Maybe both sides. Southampton have yet to make any comment on the injury, but they’ll be sweating his fitness.
With Boufal out for an extended time, Southampton will be running short on attacking options. And the options that will be available are all seemingly hit-and-miss type players. Dusan Tadic, for example is one of those types. He’ll either score twice or he’ll not be there all match.
This is a massive injury for both of his sides, and it would be a real blow to Southampton to be without their club record signing for the remainder of the season.
