Speaking to the Southampton Daily Echo, Southampton Football Club Executive Director Les Reed told reporters that they had yet to receive any bids for the highly sought after center back Virgil van Dijk.  He went on to say that the club would reject any bids that were placed for the all-around brilliant defender.

Southampton are in the middle of a so-so season, but they are none too keen to see one of their best players leave- yet again- in the January transfer window.  With a big EFL Cup tie against Liverpool in the horizon, it’d be a huge loss to lose Virgil at this point.

The club are also underachieving a little in the league this season, so they’ll likely want him to stay and help fix that.

One of the factors here is Jose Fonte.  It’s been reported he could be on the way out, too, so surely the Saints won’t be letting go of both of their preferred center backs in one window.  There’s no doubt that Virgil will leave.  It’s a given.  But, it’s more than likely going to happen in the summer when a long line of teams queue up to drive the price through the roof!
