ESPN FC’s sources have it that Liverpool are set to resist any and all offers for young central midfielder Kevin Stewart in the January transfer window. Stewart, a former Tottenham youth product, has impressed in mostly in cup matches for the Reds since Jurgen Klopp has arrived. The 23 year old only just signed an extension back in November, so even the price of £10 million will not see off Jurgen Klopp, according to sources.
With competition for midfield places proving to be difficult for veterans like Lucas Leiva, it is no surprise that the youngster hasn’t quite fully bedded in as of yet.
However, Liverpool’s matches aren’t going to slow down this month as they have the FA Cup and the League Cup semi-finals to now turn their attentions to. The Englishman has proven to be quite good at playing the holding role, and he’s also said to be a decent central defender if he’s needs in a pinch.
As a result of this, it’s hard to see Liverpool letting him go, as the report states. Klopp loves his younger players, and he has a way with words that makes players want to stick around even when they aren’t playing. Stewart will get his chance, and he’ll be at Liverpool when he does.
