Newcastle are contemplating a January loan move for out-of-favour Everton midfielder Tom Cleverly, according to the latest reports from The Sun.
The Magpies’ interest in the former Man Utd player was first reported by the Sun on New Year’s Day. Now, Daily Mirror have further fuelled the speculation by claiming that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez wants the 27-year-old for the rest of the season.
The Geordies are also willing to make the deal permanent if they manage to secure the promotion at the end of the season.
The England international has fallen out of favour under manager Ronald Koeman this season and the prospect of regular football would certainly hold an appeal for him. He has managed only four league starts this season.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have managed to pick up only three points from their three fixtures over the festive period and have lost their place at the summit of the league to Brighton.
