Three Major Problems Celtic Must Fix in January

Brendan Rodgers has transformed Celtic into a powerful team that has not tasted defeat in 24 matches of domestic competition. After 19 matches in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic are in first place with 18 wins and 1 draw, with the most goals scored, and least goals allowed.

Domestically, Celtic seem unstoppable and no team in Scotland can come close to besting Brenda Rodgers’ squad. However, there is definitely room for improvement, as Celtic crashed out of the Champions League group stage with no wins, ending out bottom of Group C. Yes, it was a very difficult group, but it has to be disappointing to not even salvage a third place spot.

What can Rodgers do this January to improve his squad? Here are the three major problems Celtic must fix (Click Next)…

1 Better Quality in Midfield

Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong have been playing quite well this season, but apart from these two quality midfielders, there is no one else who can truly compete at a Champions League level.

Although Callum McGregor and Nir Bitton are good for the domestic competitions, they are no where near to Brown & Armstrong. Brenda Rodgers needs to bring in a midfielder who can truly fight with Brown & Armstrong for a starting spot to keep the whole midfield motivated.

2 One more solid Center-Back

Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko are an incredible duo serving as the defensive backbone of Celtic. However, apart from the starting defensive duo, there is little quality in the bench.

Toure, Ambrose and Boyata just don’t have the quality to serve as a good replacement for the starting duo. If Brenda Rodgers can bring in one more solid center-back, Celtic would greatly enhance its defensive prowess. Furthermore, it would allow Rodgers the opportunity to experiment with different defensive formations, given the added player depth.

3 Greater Flair from the Wide Areas

James Forrest and Scott Sinclair have been doing a good job playing out wide for Celtic, offering plenty of scoring opportunities. However, both players are injury prone, and Rodgers doesn’t have a quality replace on the bench.

Brenda Rodgers urgently needs to add a Winger who can server as a quality backup out wide. In fact, I would consider this Brenda Rodgers’ #1 priority for the January transfer season.
