Report: Manchester United close in on the signing of £50 million-rated star

2 Manchester United in Trouble

According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Victor Lindelof but they will have to wait till next summer to complete the transfer.

Manchester United’s recovery continued with a hard fought 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Saturday and the Red Devils all of a sudden find themselves just two points off of 2nd place Liverpool at the moment.

While things are certainly looking up for United, manager Jose Mourinho will be well aware of the fact that his side still have a lot of work to do in order to break into the top four and one can expect the Portuguese manager to strengthen his squad during the upcoming January transfer window.

1 Lindelof set for United move?

Having been left unimpressed by Chris Smalling, it is believed that Mourinho will look to acquire the services of a new defender this winter and Benfica star Victor Lindelof has widely been mentioned as a target for the Red Devils over the past few months.

Now in an update to the story, the Daily Mirror have gone on to claim that United have already established contacts with Benfica over the signing of Lindelof and the Premier League giants stand a very good chance of securing the Swedish international who is rated at around £50 million by the Portuguese giants.

That said though, Benfica are not willing to sell Lindelof this January as they aim to keep their best players for the latter stages of the Champions League and United will most likely only be able to land the services of the 22-year-old next summer.
