Superstar delivers a huge boost to Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez spoke for the first time about his contract situation, saying he’s “very happy” at Arsenal and wants to win with the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Chilean international put the ball in Arsenal’s court with comments that seemed to say, “show me the money.”

“It really doesn’t depend on me. If they want to show confidence in me. I’m very happy at the club. I love all the staff. I’m very grateful for everybody here. I’m focused more on winning football matches – I’m staying concentrated on that.”

Alexis currently has 18 months left on contract and, along with Mesut Özil, is seeking a deal that pays him amongst the top earners in the Premier League.

The Chilean has recently been linked with a big money move to the Chinese Super League where Manuel Pellegrini-managed Hebei China Fortune is prepared to offer £400,000-per-week. Arsene Wenger, growing more frustrated each time Özil and Alexis’ contracts are brought up, dismissed the idea of Alexis moving to China because it’s a move that lacks ambition.

For Alexis’ part, he clearly stated his ambition, which includes winning competitions with Arsenal.

“I enjoy the relationship with the fans. I want to achieve more for them. I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League.”

While Alexis’ comments are clearly intended to tell Arsenal he wants to be paid more, there can be some positives taken from the fact that he wants to re-sign with Arsenal. His comments indicate that Arsenal is a club where his ambitions can be met and where he feels he can continue to grow as a person on and off the field.

Arsenal now have to match that ambition with a financial statement.
