Manchester United Strongest Possible Lineup against Tottenham: Bailly and Mata to start

Manchester United got a big 2-0 win against Zorya on Thursday, and they will look to build off that performance when they play a huge EPL fixture against Tottenham this Sunday.

Here is a look at the possible lineup.

GK- David de Gea

Sergio Romero started in goal on Thursday against Zorya and helped Manchester United secure the shutout However, David de Gea is still the number one goalie for Jose Mourinho’s side, and he should slide back into the lineup on Sunday.

LB- Daley Blind

Luke Shaw is still in doubt due to an injury, and Blind has played this position well all season long for Manchester United. He started here on Thursday against Zorya, and he played quite well, so there is no reason to take his name out of the lineup.

CB- Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly made his return to the lineup after missing a few weeks due to injury, and he was very impressive in his return. Bailly is probably Manchester United’s best center back when healthy, so he figures to slot into the starting lineup once again if he is fit, likely alongside Marcos Rojo. Rojo started against Zorya on Thursday, which seems to indicate that Jose Mourinho prefers him over fellow center back Phil Jones at the moment.

RB- Antonio Valencia

Valencia was given some rest this week, as he did not play in the midweek fixture against Zorya, but assuming he is fit he will be back in the starting lineup on Sunday.

CM- Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba

Mourinho went back to the 4-2-3-1 on Thursday with Pogba and Herrera starting as the two in the central midfield. It worked out well, as Herrera was able to take care of most of the defensive work, making five tackles, while Pogba was able to get forward a little bit more.

AML- Anthony Martial

Martial’s form has improved drastically over his past two starts, as he has scored twice and assisted a goal in his two most recent appearances. I would expect Mourinho to reward Martial’s good form with more playing time, and that should include a start against Tottenham.

AMC- Juan Mata

Mata started as an outside attacking midfielder on Thursday and was not very effective, but I still believe he is the best option for Manchester United as a central attacking midfielder. We’ll have to wait and see whether or not his poor performance on Thursday will cost him a spot in the starting lineup or not.

AMR- Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Mkhitaryan has started to hit his stride, as he scored a key goal against Zorya during the midweek Europa League fixture. It seems like he is finally starting to perform like the player everyone thought he would be now that he is getting more consistent playing time.

ST- Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan scored yet another goal against Zorya on Thursday, and he is absolutely on fire. He has now scored a goal in four straight games, and he has seven goals in his past six matches, so it is impossible to bench him during this hot streak.
