Report: Premier League defender set to snub Manchester United

Highly-rated West Ham United defender Reece Oxford has decided to sign a new 5-year deal with the capital club, according to the London Evening Standard.

The report claims the 17-year-old versatile defender has opted to snub Manchester United’s interest in his services in favour of signing a new deal with the capital club.

Oxford is reportedly set to sign a new contract until 2021, which will see him net a basic salary of £20,000 a week.

Jose Mourinho is thought to be a big fan of the teenager, but it appears as though the player won’t be going anywhere.

Oxford, who’s equally comfortable at centre-back and as a defensive midfielder, was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer.

However, the transfer failed to materialize and it now seems like United will have to forget about the talented youngster.

Oxford made his official debut for West Ham’s senior squad at the start of last season, but failed to keep his place in SlavenBilic’s first team and was demoted to the reserves.

He’s only played 2 games for his team so far this season – both in the Europa League qualifying rounds.

Oxford is yet to play a single minute in the Premier League for West Ham in the current campaign, but he’s still extremely young and will surely have plenty of chances to force his way back to Bilic’s starting eleven in the future.
