Liverpool close to agreeing a deal for midfielder

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has admitted the club is already in talks with his agent over a contract extension and the deal could soon be finalized.

Speaking to Omnisport, Can also said he’s happy to stay at Anfield.

“Yes, the club has spoken to my agent,” Can said. “The talks are going very good.”

“I have one-and-a-half years left. I am still under contract and it is my agent’s work [to sort it out]. I am very happy here at Liverpool.”

Can also commented on his team’s chances of winning the Premier League title for the first time since 1990, saying the players are allowed to dream, but there’s still a “long way to go”.

“If you play for a club like Liverpool you have to think always about titles,” Can said.

“The target at such a big club is always to win silverware. Of course we want to win the title, but we don’t know if we will win it.

“We want to make history, but it comes from hard work, it comes from belief, it comes from confidence.

“There’s a long, long way to go. We have to look not to tomorrow, but to today. We can dream. Everybody can dream, but you have to see the truth.

“We don’t know what will happen. We just have to work hard in the training sessions and we have to win our games and then we will see.”

Liverpool have started the season fantastically well, winning 8 of their first 11 league games and are currently top of the table with 26 points.

Despite missing Liverpool’s first few games of the season through injury, Can has recovered and has forced his way back into Jürgen Klopp’s starting eleven in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old Germany international midfielder has made 7 league appearances for Liverpool so far this season, scoring 2 goals.

He started Liverpool’s last three Premier League games and scored in his team’s last two games – at Crystal Palace and in yesterday’s 6-1 demolition of Watford.

It seems like the club values Can’s qualities and is already working on a contract extension, which would be a welcome boost for the fans.
