Manchester United reportedly interested in 20-year-old international striker

Old Trafford

Manchester United are following the progress of young Porto striker Andre Silva, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The report claims the United scouts watched the 20-year-old Portugal international in action for his club against Club Brugge on Wednesday and saw him score the winning goal in the 37th minute.

However, the newspaper goes on to suggest United would face fierce competition for Silva’s signature from Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and several other European clubs.

Silva has been in phenomenal form since the start of the season, scoring 9 goals in 13 appearances in all competitions for Porto.

He even made his debut for Portugal’s senior national team in the 2-0 defeat at Switzerland on September 6th and has since scored 4 goals for his country.

Portugal has high hopes for Silva as the Iberians have lacked a top quality striker ever since Pedro Pauleta announced his international retirement in 2006.

It seems like Andre Silva could be Pauleta’s worthy successor as he’s widely regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in world football.

United’s reported interest in Silva is hardly surprising as the club is always looking to sign the best youngsters in the world, but if the Red Devils are to stand a chance of securing Silva’s signature, they’d need to start performing on the pitch in order to be able to offer Silva Champions League football and a platform to challenge for the league title.

The competition for Silva’s services would definitely be fierce, but if United get their act together on the pitch, Jose Mourinho’s presence at Old Trafford could tempt Silva into choosing the Red Devils.
