Chelsea are interested in signing Villarreal centre-back Mateo Musacchio, according to Italian website TransferMarketWeb.
The report suggests the Blues have been keeping a close eye on Musacchio’s displays this season, but face competition from Italian clubs Milan, Roma and Fiorentina.
Villarreal are believed to be looking for a fee in the region of €30m for the composed defender.
The 26-year-old Argentina international has been in impressive form for Villarreal this term, helping his side to 3 clean sheets in 7 La Liga games so far.
The Yellow Submarine has the second-best defense in the Spanish top flight so far, only conceding 4 goals since the start of the season, and Musacchio has played a major role in making it happen.
The Argentine was reportedly close to joining Italian giants Milan in the summer, but the deal fell through.
Musacchio has an Italian passport, which would make his potential move to Chelsea much easier as he wouldn’t require a work permit.

He’d be a very good signing for Chelsea and Conte should do everything possible to sign him in January.
The Italian manager desperately needs more options at centre-back despite the arrival of David Luiz.
Musacchio would be a very good option for Conte as his asking price is not excessive, especially for a quality defender who has proven himself in one of the top leagues in the world in the last few years.
