Boost as Arsenal defender close to returning from injury

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is close to returning from his serious ACL injury, sustained during his loan spell at West Ham United last season.

Jenkinson has been out of action since the end of January, but has now reassured his fans on his Instagram page that he’s close to resuming training.

“Great few days away recharging the batteries,” Jenkinson said.

“It’s been a long 7 months but the end is near. I cannot wait to get back out there.”

The former Finland Under-21 international scored 2 goals in 23 appearances for West Ham last season, but had to sit out the final 4 months of the campaign after suffering an injury in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Jenkinson’s ability to play all across the defense could make him an important part of Arsenal’s squad.

However, he’ll need regular first-team football when he returns to action, so Wenger could decide to send him on a half-a-season loan in January.

Despite spending the last couple of seasons away from the Emirates Stadium, he’s still only 24 years old, so he should have a good chance of establishing himself in Wenger’s team if the French manager decides to keep him at the club.
