Manchester United are not interested in signing Southampton captain Jose Fonte, according to Manchester Evening News reporter Stuart Mathieson.
Fonte has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks following his impressive displays at Euro 2016.
He could still end up leaving the Saints this month, but it seems like Manchester United wouldn’t be his next destination.
The 32-year-old former Benfica and Crystal Palace centre-back, who joined his current club 6 years ago, made 43 appearances for the Saints last season.
He’s one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League, but time is running out for him to secure a move to a bigger club as he’s inching towards the end of his playing career.
Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to sign an experienced centre-back this month as he believes United’s defense lacks leadership.
However, the transfer window slams shut in less than a week, so Mourinho could decide to stick with his current defensive options, especially if he cannot sign his preferred target before August 31st.
